A number of Leicestershire founded startups have been highlighted in a new report examining the role of business in creating jobs and supporting growth.
The Jobs Foundation’s report titled ‘Loughborough: Looking to the Future’ looks at the role of employment as a means of helping people escape from poverty, alongside looking at business as a societal good.
Loughborough University’s business incubator is spotlighted and with it a number of the businesses it has helped .
Exphand Prosthetics, a startup which developed a lightweight, adjustable, affordable and colourful prosthetic upper body limb for children that grows with the user – was praised as a shining example of a private enterprise delivering a societal good.
The Bug Factory was also highlighted as a successful case study. Its founder Thomas Constant said:
“It’s truly inspiring to be part of a community where entrepreneurship and university partnerships come together to make a real difference.
“The work being done at Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park and through initiatives like the Loughborough Alumni is setting the stage for a brighter, more prosperous future.”
“A big shoutout to all the amazing entrepreneurs, students, and partners who are part of this journey.”
Professor Dan Parsons, Loughborough University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said:

Of the report, Georgiana Bristol (Chief Executive of the Jobs Foundation) said:
“The biggest and most effective engine to tackle poverty is the business community. The report on Loughborough is a great snapshot of where business, jobs and prosperity lie in an important part of England in 2024.”
