Two Loughborough University graduates have been named as the winners of Innovate UK’s Unlocking Potential awards.
Katie Michaels the founder of Moti Me and Joseph Bentley of ACT Medical will both receive a share of £6.2m grant funding for developing innovations to either increase sustainability, strengthen social cohesion or improve healthcare.
Moti Me is an innovative physiotherapy-focused product to help children with learning and movement disabilities such as cerebral palsy. The startup went through the sixth Leicester Startups Accelerator and was named the winner at Demo Day. Founder Katie Michaels said:
“I am delighted to share that Moti Me is an Innovate UK winner for the Unlocking Potential award 2023 – which is part of a new £6.2 million boost for UK Young Innovators!
“I am so thankful to have been recognised by Innovate UK as we work towards supporting children with developmental delay disabilities in achieving their physiotherapy goals.”
Both startups received support through Loughborough University’s business incubator programme, LUinc., to develop and grow their businesses. Incubator Manager, Pete Hitchings, said:
“It’s great to see Katie and Joseph progress their businesses, and to see their talent recognised in this way.
“Moti Me and ACT Medical are tackling critical societal challenges, and their success highlights the impactful ventures emerging from our supportive network.”
